Rafael Nadal has decided to team up with Argentine coach Gustavo Marcaccio following his surprise split from Francicso Roig.
Roig had been with Nadal his entire professional career, but the two decided to part ways over the weekend.
Nadal, on the other hand, has moved quickly to fill the void, asking Marcaccio to join Carlos Moya and Marc Lopez on his coaching staff.
Rafael Nadal wrote on his Instagram page, “Hello everyone. I’d like to inform you that Gustavo Marcaccio has joined the technical team.
“Gustavo has been working at the Rafa Nadal Academy since April 2021, and I understand he is a valuable member of the team. It will undoubtedly aid us in staying on the road. “Greetings, Gustavo!”
Roig was a dependable member of Nadal’s team, so it came as a surprise when it was announced that they would no longer be working together.
The reason for the split was not given, but Nadal was quick to express his gratitude.
“I wanted to let you know that Francis Roig is leaving the team,” Nadal announced last week. “Francis has been an important person in my career and I am very grateful to him for all these years of work and friendship.
“When we started working together I was a child and together with my uncle Toni, we started on the circuit.
“Francis is a great coach who knows a lot about tennis and has helped me a lot to get better and better. I only have words of gratitude for him, and I wish him the best of luck with his new endeavor.”
